2020 Virginia Computer Science Educator of the Year. As an Elementary Instructional Facilitator of Computer Science, I cover eight schools throughout Loudoun County. At each of my assigned schools, I work with administrators and staff to build the CS/CT culture while integrating the Virginia Computer Science SOLs into core curriculum. Along with the other CS Facilitators, we collaborate weekly on designing professional development sessions that focus on the utilization of Minecraft, Scratch, LEGO, and various other resources to promote Computer Science and Computational Thinking.

Nahla Eltaher is a 5th year educator who teaches Early Childhood Special Education. She graduated from the University of Cairo with a bachelor's in public policy, and a ECSE master's from George Mason University. She speaks three languages fluently, (Arabic, French, English) and enjoys spending time with her children and husband. Mrs. Eltaher is passionate about working with young disabled students and helping them become lifelong learners via computational thinking and computer science. Mrs. Eltaher believes that great educators learn and grow with their students and is thankful for the opportunity to help both educators and students develop and flourish.

Becca Gratz is an Instructional Facilitator of Computer Science in Loudoun County, Virginia. Her main focus is to support CS integration in an elementary classroom. Becca has 11 year of teaching experience in Maryland, West Virginia, and Maryland. She has a BS in Mass Communications, Event Planning and MAT in Elementary Education, both from Frostburg State. Becca's passion lies in CS and Computational Thinking. Becca holds several certifications that include MaKey MaKey Ambassador, FlipGrid CE, iRobot Root Ambassador, and BrainPOP Certified Educator, along with several more. Becca has presented at conferences around the US, including FETC, ISTE, and digitally for BrainPOP Educators around the globe.

I am a technology coach at John Champe High School in Aldie, Virginia. I encourage teachers to tap into students' innate creativity and the human drive to tell stories in order to facilitate deeper learning. I have particular interests in website design, audio/video production, and Universal Design for Learning.  I am the faculty sponsor of the school's Model Rocketry Club and Certified Model Rocket Science Teacher with the National Association of Rocketry.  Prior to working as a tech coach, I taught physics and was a high school science department chair.

Mike is a former middle school teacher as well as a school based and district-level integration specialist, instructional designer and Aerospace Educator at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum. Currently he is a Middle School Computer Science facilitator for Loudoun County. He is responsible for teaching, planning, organizing, developing, implementing, directing and participating in the advancement and maintenance of a diverse computer science training and coaching curriculum. He has extensive professional development experience with K-12 educators, administrators, and curriculum personnel.

Amy grew up in Prince George’s County, Maryland. She earned her bachelor's degree in Child and Family Development from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and her master's degree in Early Childhood Education from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia. The 2022-23 school year will be her 16th year in Loudoun County and second year as an Elementary Instructional Facilitator of Computer Science. Session description

Throughout this playground session, explore various computer science tools, participate in hands-on activities that integrate core content standards in grades K-8, and attend presentation sessions focusing on the benefits of true computer science integration across the curriculum.

Purpose & objective

Integration of technology and Computer Science Standards of Learning may seem daunting, but not in Loudoun County where Instructional Facilitators of Computer Science work with teachers and administrators throughout the division to deepen the learning of all students in elementary and middle school.
