Session description

How do you make the 4C's even better? Combine them with innovation, that's how! A large part of being innovative means learning how human-made things work. Join us to learn how you can incorporate invention literacy into your curriculum!

Purpose & objective

The purpose of this session is to introduce and/or clarify the concept of invention literacy. No, it is not traditional reading and writing. Instead, it is the ability to read and write HUMAN-MADE "stuff." This skill is just as vital to the future success of individuals as it is to society as a whole. Embedded into the concept of invention literacy is learning how to fail forward, how to identify problems, design solutions, and see multiple possibilities. The presenters designed the courses Explorations (K-5) and Invention Lab (6th) with a focus on Education's 4C's (creativity, collaboration, communication, and critical thinking) through project based learning, and invention literacy to foster innovation.
