Gabo Arora is a VR and AR pioneer, and a professor at Johns Hopkins University. There, he founded the first degree program on immersive storytelling and conducts cutting edge research on technology and empathy. He also runs LightShed.io, a multi-award winning studio that is poised to inspire the next generation with a skill set for creation and artistic expression.  He was most recently appointed as Accenture’s Head of Creative Innovation, building out a new metaverse studio to serve lighthouse clients.

Session description

The Whose Metaverse? platform provides a variety of immersive educational courses on building digital skills in the metaverse, including the latest emerging technologies like generative AI & NFTs. It can also be used in a hybrid model for students to meet in a physical location, such as a hub in Harlem.

Purpose & objective

- Participants will be introduced to online, immersive, collaborative learning environments in the metaverse
- Participants will experience the Whose Metaverse?/LightSchool learning platform in multiple modalities, such as tablet, computer, and HMD-VR (headset virtual reality)
- Participants will learn how these types of experiences can overcome digital equity gaps and foster inclusion among marginalized and underserved communities

Outline

20 minutes
At the top of each hour during the ISTEverse, Gabo Arora and Barry Pousman will lead a presentation on how Whose Metaverse? is closing the digital equity gap and fostering inclusion. This presentation will last approximately 20 minutes.

40 minutes
Barry and Barry will facilitate experiences in Whose Metaverse? for attendees on multiple devices types and answer questions on how Whose Metaverse? has been implemented in Harlem, as well as two new locations in the Bay area and Seattle.
