Lauren Morris is a first year Instructional Coach and Technology Integration Specialist in Talladega County Schools, Alabama. She earned her BS Degree at University of Alabama and worked as a History teacher for 6 years. Her achievements include Google Coach Certification, Best in Class & 1st place in Educational Media in the 2019 TCBOE STEAM Showcase, and TCBOE Middle School Teacher of the Year. She currently coaches teachers in four week cycles towards achieving a goal in their classroom to make instructional practices better and incorporate Hummingbird kits, coding, Breakout Edu kits, and other hands-on activities.

Session description

I will present my blog on called "Diary of a First year Instructional Coach." My goal on is to share my tips, tricks, highs and lows of navigating my new career. I'll also highlight effective strategies and strategies that weren't for me.

Purpose & objective

Participants will be able to gain tips, tricks and organization strategies for instructional coaching.
Participants will be able to learn strategies that can be used in coaching cycles when working with teachers.
Participants will learn how to create positive relationships with teachers and students.
Participants will learn how to incorporate STEAM lessons in their coaching cycles.

Outline

I. Introduction to me, my job and my school system.
-5 minutes or less on background information
II. Discussion on Coaching Cycle structure, positive outcomes and negative experiences
- 5-10 minutes to discuss strategies that were successful and those that were not
- discuss how to build good relationships with teachers and students
- discuss how to incorporate STEAM lessons and other activities
III. Give Tips, Tricks and Organizational strategies
- 5 minutes on all things that are helpful
