The purpose of this session is to expose attendees to the importance of student choice in learning, particularly during research and reading opportunities. Participants will know that Wakelet is a curation tool that can be used to create collections of resources and materials to facilitate learning opportunities. Participants will be able to create their own collections to support teaching and learning.
The only educational or infrastructure challenge would be required access to digital devices and the Internet to use Wakelet.
5 Minutes - The presentation will begin with a brief presenter-led intro to Wakelet, a web and app-based curation tool. Participants who have not already done so will have the opportunity to make accounts in order to practice making their own collection during the demonstrations.
20 Minutes - The presentation will then transition to a focus on the importance of student choice in learning with a:
-device-based demonstration on how to curate collections that support research tasks or projects via student-guided inquiry using the various organizational formats of Wakelet collections and the variety of text and multimedia resources that can be included.
-device-based demonstration on how to set up and facilitate literature circles and student-selected, individual or group reading activities using the various organizational formats of Wakelet collections and the variety of text and multimedia resources that can be included.
5 Minutes - The presentation will end with an opportunity for questions or to receive help adding content to a Wakelet collection.
