Dr. Brian Cook is a District Instructional Technology and Innovation Coach for Worcester County Public Schools. He also serves as an adjunct professor working with undergraduate and graduate courses with a focus on pre-service teachers and technology.

Session description

Not a coder? Not a problem. Learn the steps in building a foundation of coding with Everyone Can Code Early Learners curriculum. Offer your K-3 students the opportunities to display creativity, collaboration and problem-solving while having fun. You'll walk away immediately prepared to code with early learners.

Purpose & objective

Educators will gain an introduction to the Everyone Can Code Early Learner curriculum and be able to implement the program in an after school program or school in Grades K-3.

Objectives:
-develop an understanding of Everyone Can Code Early Learner curriculum
-navigate to the ready made resources in Everyone Can Create Early Learner curriculum
-elevate their comfort level in coding with Early (K-3) Learners
-be confident to walk into a classroom and begin implementing the Everyone Can Code Early Learner curriculum

Outline

Introduction: Welcome and offer purpose of the session.
Framework: Introduce Everyone Can Code Early Learner and offer opportunity for everyone to download the teacher guide.
Modules: Explain the progression of the four modules and grade-level appropriateness.
Model: Bring participants to the "carper" and model the teaching of the opening lesson using the Explore, Discover, and Play framework.

Potential: Discuss where Everyone Can Create Early Learners fits into a school, grade-level, or after school program. Share experience and options using the resources available.
