Dominic leads the LAUSD-Instructional Technology Initiative team in the design & delivery of professional learning & programs around the expansion of computer science (CS), digital citizenship, & ISTE Standards. He has been providing CS workshops in the US and abroad through the global non-profit Code.org, to increase participation of underrepresented students in CS & prepares Code.org’s facilitators in leading equity-minded CS workshops. He was a National Board Certified special ed teacher and received the 2021 ISTE Technology Coordinators Network Award. In his spare time, Dominic is building a social and learning enterprise in his home country, the Philippines.

Strategic Relationship Manager
Former Educator in K-8 classrooms and school librarian, Susan is the Strategic Relationship Manager for Go Guardian, specifically working with Los Angeles Unified and other large CA and NV school districts. Susan is a Pear Deck Legacy Account Executive where she collaborated, presented and trained school sites and districts on best practices for student engagement and teacher efficacy. She has been working with the ITI Team for 4 years since they first met at ISTE 2019! In addition to work, Susan is the proud mom of 4 fully launched children. She relaxes with hiking, yoga, golf, reading and she loves to travel!

Amber was a former educator for 11 years working in elementary school, STEM computer coding, and finished her teaching career as an Instructional Coaching. She also completed her principal license and became a Google Certified Trainer. Amber has a tremendous passion for educational technology and spent many years helping teachers implement it in their classrooms. Amber is now part of the GoGuardian/ Pear Deck team for the last two years and continues spreading the love of educational technology with teachers nationwide!

Session description

Discover how LAUSD partnered with Pear Deck to customize professional development and increase engagement, metacognition and active learning. Explore how together they built critical skills with students while supporting educators by equipping them with learning-science tools to improve efficacy. Specific lesson content and tools will be showcased.

Purpose & objective

Through this session, attendees will learn a variety of strategies toward cultivating an instructional district-wide partnership that provides the opportunity to deliver custom professional development to increase engagement, metacognition, and active learning for all students. The professional development sessions are grounded in research and founded on curriculum and practices developed by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).
