Instructional design is meant to be an ongoing process of planning outcomes, selecting strategies, and identifying appropriate resources and technologies for teaching and learning. The purpose of this session is to take a step beyond instructional design, which is typically teacher-centered, and focus on Learning Experience Design, which keeps students and how *they* experience the learning at the center.
Whether we are designing for face to face instruction, online learning, or a combination of both, developing and following an instructional design model provides guidelines and a process to meet our instructional goals.
Attendees will examine the Learning Experience Design process, including empathizing with our students and their needs, strengths, and interests, looking at standards and learning goals and choosing appropriate instructional methods, and designing activities and resources that personalize the learning experience for students.
Attendees will engage in a hands-on design process, putting the LXD model into action. Attendees will walk away with templates, resources, and strategies that can be used to design projects and activities for students, or professional learning for adults.
For a 90 min session (can be modified for shorter):
20 min - What is Learning Experience Design - it's the intersection of Instructional Design and Design Thinking
10 min - Considering your audience - cognitive load in instructional design
60 min - The Learning Experience Design Process - engage in a hands on activity to design a personalized experience for students OR adult learners while we break down each component of the process
