Tech Tips, Help and Other Resources [+][—]

How do I log in to the mobile app?

Download the official ISTELive 22 mobile app and sign in using the mobile app access code that was emailed to you and is also available on your ISTELive 22 Account.

How do I log in to the virtual platform?

First, make sure you’re logging into the ISTELive 22 platform and not just the ISTELive 22 marketing site.

Having trouble logging in? Make sure you’re using the email address that you registered with to log in. Sometimes people have both a personal email address and a work email address separately in our system, but you’ll need to use the one that you’re registered with to gain access to ISTELive 22.

You will need to enter your 4-digit access code that was emailed to you and is also available on your ISTELive 22 Account (it is the same access code you use to sign in on the mobile app).

If you are having continued trouble logging in, reach out to iste@iste.org for assistance, or chat with customer support via the chat in the bottom right of the ISTELive 22 homepage

Are there recommended device settings for the virtual platform?

If you are experiencing tech issues, be sure you’re using the recommended settings below and then try again.

Recommended Browser: Chrome is recommended, Firefox and Edge are alternatives. On iOS devices, Safari can be used.

Recommended Systems: Windows 10, Windows 8 or 8.1, Windows 7, Mac OS X, macOS 10.9 or later, iOS 11 or later.

Connection speed: A minimum connection of 3 Mbps both upload and download is required to view streamed content. A 10 Mbps upload/download is recommended to be able to engage via video or microphone in sessions. Test your connection here.

For a more stable connection, an ethernet internet connection is always recommended. If you’re still experiencing a lag, ensure you’re off camera to help the connection speed or understand if you have other programs running in the background of your computer that could be using bandwidth. You can also hide presenters’ videostream within live sessions if you still encounter stability issues.

Video and Audio permissions: Each computer and each browser has different permissions for access to camera, speakers or microphones. The best way to ensure your computer and browser are prepared for interactivity is to test your audio and video here. You will be prompted to allow access to your camera and microphone.

Multiple Screens and Monitors: We highly recommend having an additional monitor to ensure you can both share your screen and see the chat when you are in your session. You cannot be in the session from two devices at the same time, so we highly recommend an external monitor.

Is closed captioning offered?

Live English and Spanish closed captioning is offered for all Mainstage sessions, and live English captions are available for select sessions each day. All recordings will have English captions. Should you attend a session that does not offer captioning, we have several recommendations:

We recommend using Chrome universally for the ISTELive 22 platform and streaming platform on desktop or laptop, but Chrome has also launched captioning across its browser. Below are instructions for enabling Chrome captions.

You must be using Chrome version 84.0.4136.2 or higher.

  1. Go to chrome://flags/#enable-accessibility-live-captions in your Chrome browser window and find the “Live Caption” option. On the drop down box that says “Default” to the right of the Live Caption listing, click and select “Enabled.”
  2. Next, go to chrome://settings/accessibility in your Chrome browser window. At the top where it says “Live Caption,” toggle that functionality on.
  3. You’ll need to close down and relaunch the Chrome browser for this functionality to appear. A black box with captioning should then automatically appear when a video with sound is streaming. This box can be moved around the screen to any location you choose.

If you are unable to use Chrome, we recommend using WebCaptioner in a separate browser window for captioning of live sessions.

Are there additional tips for a better session experience?

If you’ve been in sessions successfully before and you’re now encountering audio or video issues try these solutions in this order:

  1. Refresh the page.
  2. Navigate back to Browse the Program or My Dashboard to find that session and reenter the session.
  3. Clear your browser cache/browsing history.
  4. Log out of the ISTELive 22 platform and log back in, navigate to your session and reenter the session.
  5. Change browsers and try to access the ISTELive 22 platform again.
  6. Restart your computer and try to access the ISTELive 22 platform again.
  7. Head to the Virtual Platform Support desk to get personalized help.

If you are a presenter experiencing issues, log in to your presenter menu to access the training materials you can use to prepare for your session. You will also have a room moderator in your session to assist with any problems that come up.
