Whether online or in-person, educators need to teach, assess and connect with students meaningfully. That becomes more challenging with multilingual learners and students with disabilities. Nearpod engages all students in inclusive, diverse and equitable ways. We will cover accessible features and practices to bring success for all.

Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

The Participants will be able to:
-Utilize the accessibility features built into the platform and identify the scenarios where they are best suited
-Engage in differentiated presentation and assessment methods
-Create meaningful lessons that include activities geared towards students with disabilities and multilingual learners
-Incorporate digital and analog best practices for MLLs & SWDs

Outline

Intro (5 min)-Background and introductions, stated outcomes, and directions in joining the Neaerpod lesson collectively

Example Inclusive Lesson (15 min)-We will guide teachers through an exemplar inclusive lesson with a range of opportunities for them to playfully participate and share their stories and experiences as well.

All About Accessibility (15 min)-We take a deep dive into accessible tools that can be incorporated for various learning needs and how in can serve diverse student groups.

Inclusive Learning Practices (20 min)-With the skills now learned we will explore analog and digital best practices for students with learning changes and how to use the tool along with data-driven pedagogical techniques for special education. Opportunity will be given for staff to be creating their own inclusive lessons.

Conclusion/Call to Action (5 min)-Not only will learners to be able to take away the full presentation with built-in notes along with their own creations, but we will share a range of other resources we have compiled for special educators in NYC that they can bring back to implement inclusive learner in their schools as well.

Bio: Kyriaki Xiraki-Tselios is an NYCDOE ML/ELL teacher for D75. She is also an Ed Tech Model Teacher, remote learning expert, and a creator and adaptor of accessible and differentiated online curriculum. She is also an Apple Learning Coach, a Google Certified Educator, MIE certified, Nearpod PioNear and Coach, and a Quizizz Certified Educator. Kiki is a #TeachSDGs international ambassador in Cohort 6 2022 and a GoNoodle ambassador. Kiki enjoys working out, reading, and traveling (especially to the motherland, Greece).
