Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

The purpose of this session is to discuss how artificial intelligence can be taught in ELL classes. We do not believe AI should be taught as a separate subject, so we have proposed activities that involve both English Language Learning and artificial intelligence. The activities have been tried out by teachers at an English Language private institute, with students of various ages and language levels. Students have shown great interest in better understanding AI, its effects on our daily lives and how they can deal with AI now and in the future.

During this session, first we'll have a closer look at what AI is and how much it is part of our lives. Then we will take a look at some activities that were proposed for teachers and how students responded to them. Then we'll go through a hands-on experience using one of the activities. After this session, participants will be better able to plan AI activities for their ELL. They will also leave this session with a bank of ready to use and adaptable activities to be used in class.
