The Universal Design for Learning UDL) framework allows teachers to design learning experiences that meet the needs of all students. This session outlines tools that can be used to enhance the learning experience so that all students are able to access the information, engage with the content and demonstrate mastery.

Designer
  • Use technology to create, adapt and personalize learning experiences that foster independent learning and accommodate learner differences and needs.
  • Design authentic learning activities that align with content area standards and use digital tools and resources to maximize active, deep learning.
  • Explore and apply instructional design principles to create innovative digital learning environments that engage and support learning.

Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

Teachers will leave this presentation with a toolbox of edtech tools that support the UDL framework. Presenters will focus on tools that allow learner variability in representation of content, student engagement, and student action/expression. The scope of this presentation includes, tools such as Google Workspace for Education, Book Creator, and Seesaw.

As the presenter demonstrates the way that each of these tools can be used to meet the UDL Framework, participants will have an opportunity to copy and remix the many templates that will be provided. The focus of the presentation is for teachers to see how Ed Tech tools can create learning experiences that all students can access.

Outline

Presenters will start with an overview of the UDL framework and how this supports student learning. Participants will have an opportunity to reflect on their own practices to see if they are already implementing UDL strategies, since many teachers find UDL to be natural to implement.

Presenters will then introduce each of the three principles of the framework and show examples of how some widely used edtech tools can be used to foster these principles in the classroom.

Representation

Engagement

-Samples of Edtech Tools being used for Engaging students
Action and Expression
-What it is
-Samples of EdTech Tools students can use to demonstrate mastery

Presenters will close with an opportunity for participants to reflect on what they took from today's presentation. We want participants to identify the first activity/lesson they will do that includes the UDL principles.
