Technology and changing circumstances have pushed Poway Unified to evaluate how we run professional growth days—and make some needed improvements. It is increasingly important to provide educators with professional learning opportunities with multiple access points. As a result of the pandemic, PUSD had to leverage current educational technology programs and software and shift how professional growth days were executed.
Part 1: Participants will learn how PUSD redesigned their professional growth days by offering sessions topics based on teacher feedback using Google Forms. From there, PUSD created a professional learning catalog with Canva that offered virtual live Zoom sessions, pre-recorded sessions, and self-paced modules built within Canvas, the District’s learning management system. Teachers are able to access the learning catalog and choose the sessions that meet their needs.
Part 2: Next, participants will be able to incorporate tools like Streamyard and YouTube Live to launch a virtual learning session to engage educators and communicate a common message.
Evidence of success included positive feedback and a high percentage of teachers participating in the various professional growth days.
