Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

Traditional education provides students with few opportunities to understand and solve real world problems such as global climate change, gender equality, hunger, poverty or good health and well-being.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are the core of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all member states of the United Nations as a road map to achieve peace and prosperity on the planet, encouraging global development. Teachers can use the SDGs in the classroom as a tool for students to develop their critical thinking, but also to help them find their identity and purpose. ..
Therefore
Coding for SDGs proposes to fight inequalities, face global problems and protect ourPlanet.
It is also focused on building an active citizenship and on the role of new
alternatives for a better future.
The growing attention to programming and STEM, their integration into disciplines to seek solutions to real world problems, started from the job market demand.

Learning outcomes for Students and teachers are:

learn about the 17 UN The UN’s Global Goals or Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s)

learning to express their creativity using coding and technology
learning to solve a variety of problems encountered in their projects
demonstrating a growth mindset (rather than a fixed mindset)
speaking mathematically to the computer/device through their coding
making exciting, personal ideas come to life through coding (this serves as the prime motivator for students to learn, play and push their coding skills further every day)
creating meaningful software applications rather than isolated chunks of code
actively learning from, and sharing with, others (face to face & online)
learning to visualize a process that accomplishes a task in their project
learning, practicing and refining the design process
reflecting on their thinking and learning in order to transfer to new challenges
excited about learning and exploring coding and technologies on their ‘own time’.....
