Attendees will learn eight quick instructional strategies for student discussions (protocols) with technology tools that highlight student engagement. These strategies are based on the instructional purposes of brainstorming, gaining consensus, turn-taking, varying perspectives, alternate means of participation, discussing texts or reading, discussing data, and providing feedback.

Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

The purpose of this presentation is for attendees to connect eight different instructional discussion protocols for critical thinking to make high engaging student collaborations.

Participant outcomes will include:
1. designing instruction that combines, technology, pedagogy and content to create rich learning experiences
2. be able to conceptualize and formulate ways to use these strategies in their classrooms quickly and adaptable to their schools.
3. accessible and equitable to schools who have limited resources
4. encourage attendees (teachers) to customize and create their own protocols to actively have students work together in learning

Outline

5 minutes - Introduction, Why we need to engage students in more meaningful collaboration and how to utilize for deeper learning experiences.

20 minutes- I will cover each teaching strategy and digital tools that enhance.
These strategies are:brainstorming, gaining consensus, turn-taking, varying perspectives, alternate means of participation, discussing texts or reading, discussing data, and providing feedback.

5 minutes- Conclusion and Resources, with open invitation to connect
