Deploying a successful personalized learning classroom involves a variety of programs, learning experiences and a multitude of teaching strategies. The Personalized Learning Playbook workshop will walk educators through a game plan that will bring together all the key aspects of personalized learning in one complete package.

Purpose & objective

The Personalized Learning Playbook will focus in on giving the participants a mock example of what personalized learning looks like in a classroom setting. The room will be set up with different activities around the room that the participants can visit after they generated their own learning plan and targets. Throughout the workshop the participants will be able to:
Define what is Personalized Learning
Explore examples of personalized learning in a K-12 classroom
Collaborate with other participants to deepen their knowledge about personalized learning
Generate a game plan for deploying personalized learning through the Five Formation Plays laid out in the Personalized Learning Playbook.
Apply global connection by searching for personalized learning classrooms from around the country.
Apply a variety of application choices for students with the App Smashing Dice

Outline

Outline:
The Personalized Learning Playbook will be set up to mimic a personalized learning classroom. Participants will set learning targets, create a learning plan with the amount of time spent at each learning target, spend time learning from each other and global connections, and set up meeting times to meet with the learning facilitator of the workshop, Marcia Kish. The outline overview is just an example of what one participant might plan out for their 90-minute workshop.
15 min - Whole group introduction and understanding of goal setting
10 min - individualized goal setting and learning target planning sheet.
40 min - Personalized Learning Path activity choices. Participants can choice from the following options or create their learning options to meet the learning target goals.
Small Group with the facilitator on how develop a personalized learning classroom
Video examples of personalized learning in K-12 classrooms. (participants will be using the program www.videonot.ets to take notes while watching the content)
Gallery Walk Poster- view photos of personalized learning classrooms in action. Gallery walk will be set up in Twitter Chat format where participants will answer questions and comments and other participants can respond.
App Smashing Dice- explore new technology tools to implement into a project based learning activity that the students can use to deepen their knowledge and to make global connections.
Personalized Learning Game Book Formation 1- Learn how to transform a traditional classroom into a personalized learning classroom.
Personalized Learning Game Book Formation 2- Implementing free technology tools that will provided adaptive practice and data collection to allow students to generate their own learning targets.
Personalized Learning Game Book Formation 3- Developing a playlist of activities that students can choice from to generate their own learning goals and to master their learning targets.
Personalized Learning Game Book Formation 4- Honing in on goal setting from the student collected data folders. Turning over the power of learning to the students
Personalized Learning Game Book Formation 5- Teacher becomes the facilitator and guides the students through their own prescript of learning targets
Participants can search and learn about personalized learning on their own through either the provided web links or by searching the internet.
15 min Whole group reflection of what personalized learning looks like. As a group we will talk about how to deploy the Five Formation plans into the classroom and make next steps for their own learning environments.

Marcia Kish has a total of twenty-two years of teaching experience. The first eleven years of her career were spent working as a classroom teacher for Worthington City Schools as a technology specialist and a classroom teacher. In the second half of her career, Marcia has devoted her time to becoming an engaging professional development coordinator, personalized learning coach, and adjunct professor for Ashland University. With a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Dayton and a master's degree in Instructional Technology from National University, Marcia Kish has developed an educational toolbox for any classroom environment.
