In this session we will explore how to create a learning journal with video lessons and quick formative assessments and then how students can flip the lesson back as part of their final assessment before the big test using a variety of tools.

Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

The purpose of this session is to model the way teachers can use collaborative journals as a way to assess student knowledge, no matter what type of learning environment is currently being used. Lesson plans and samples of collaborative teacher/student journals with flipped lessons will be shared using Microsoft PowerPoint, Google Slides and Wixie, along with mentions of other tools that could be used. The focus is not on the tools though but the process and tips on how to personalize for individual needs and for student success.

Danielle's passion for educational technology began in 1997 when all she had access to was a computer in a closet of the media center with Internet. As a former technology coach, DEN STAR, DEN Leader and member of other educational organizations, she has learned the power of networking. Danielle collaborates with Heather on various classroom activities throughout the year. She has presented at FETC, SCEDTech, GAETC, Creative Constructor and ISTE for the last 20 years.

Ashley Gardner attended Mercyhurst University where she earned a B.A. in Music Education and a M.S. in SPED. She has been working for DoDEA's Elliott Elementary since 2018, first as a music teacher and now as an Educational Technologist. She has been recognized as a Tech4Learning Innovative Educator and a Wixie Certified Educator. Her favorite thing about being an Ed Tech is that she gets to work with and empower everyone in the school from the 4-year-olds in Pre-K to the teachers and administrators who are nearing retirement.

Anne Truger is an educational technology consultant with over 20 years of conference presentation experience. Anne dreams of a world where technology integration becomes truly seamless and invisible. Currently Anne works as a Instructional Technology Coach for TrueNorth 804 Educational Cooperative. In her free time she provides Google Training for private clients. She is a Google for Education Certified Trainer and a Google Certified Innovator. Anne has presented at APC 2018-2021, ISTE 2001-2021 and at many other local conferences. She enjoys presenting and sharing her lifelong love of learning and technology passion with others.
