Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

The purpose of this poster session is to provide attendees with ideas, tips, and information about how to create and deliver digital activities for various learners connected to content area standards. This session will give attendees ideas on student collaboration, engagement, motivation, and how to bring creativity into the classroom.

The objectives for this presentation are:
The participant will be able to brainstorm how to use various digital tools to construct meaningful and personalized learning experiences.
The participant will be able to brainstorm how to deliver meaningful and personalized learning experiences.

During the session the presenter will go over multiple ways they have used digital activities in their middle school science classroom to promote student collaboration, engagement, and motivation. The digital tools referenced are…
Nearpod
Flipgrid
Google Tools (Forms / Slides)
Kami
Choice Boards
Class VR
Jamboard

The presentation will have examples of students using these resources, how they were used, purpose of the use, etc. These examples will show evidence of success.

The poster session will be sharing multiple ideas through a range of lessons and grade levels to illustrate how teachers of any grade or content can incorporate these same tools into their own classroom.

Supporting research

Digital activities are carefully planned in my classroom. It’s always about the content. I used technology to enhance student learning. A lot of what I do and how I structure lessons now is due to the book Bold Schools by Weston Kieschnick. His book approaches the use of blended learning in the classroom. He references John Hattie’s research on visible learning. Hattie’s research provides effect sizes for various key elements in education that would raise student achievement. Those tools are used as a guide to make purposeful decisions in the classroom. This presentation is a result of the study and understanding of Hattie’s research and Kieschnicks book.

I am a proud middle school science teacher who enjoys creating 'aha' moments in her classroom to motivate and engage students in their learning. I am currently in my 15th year as an educator and enjoy it every day. I have also continued to be a learner myself. As I grow I try to find the best strategies, along with useful supportive technology to guide my students in their educational journey.
