From Masks To Tarps: A Story of Resilience

,

Location: LACUE Stage, Level 1, Hall I1 Lobby

Like many school systems throughout our country, St. Charles Parish Public Schools was challenged to provide high quality educational opportunities for its students during the COVID-19 pandemic. While courageously being one of the first school systems to reopen its doors to in-person learning in August 2020, its Strong Start Plan positioned the system for success the last two years with increased services for students in spite of the many pandemic related challenges they faced. Learning from those challenges prepared the system to then systematically respond and recover from the most catastrophic event to impact St. Charles Parish when Hurricane Ida and its 140-160 miles per hour winds wreaked havoc and destruction throughout the community and system’s 20 school/center sites on August 29, 2021. This session will highlight the story of St. Charles Parish Public Schools from the system’s historic response to COVID-19 to the united efforts of recovery from Hurricane Ida and how practices established during the pandemic aided the system in providing extraordinary services to its students, families, and employees after the storm.
