Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

This panel will focus around the questions that practitioners have around the current state of the sector, best practices for educators, and more. The experts leading this panel will plan a discussion on key points surrounding inclusive design, learner variability, and learning differences. Participants can provide follow-up questions around these planned topics or ask other prepared questions they have for the panel experts. Technology Interventions or strategies discussed may include: Learner Variability Navigator, EALA’s Tech Tool Library, strategies on belonging, SEL, and whole child design.

Outline

Each expert will bring content for their particular expertise area. For example, Sheldon Horowitz will bring expertise around learning differences, Christina Cipriano will bring expertise on inclusive SEL and whole child, and Medha Tare will bring expertise on learner variability and digital promise research finding surrounding the impact of technology. The experts can lead a planned discussion. However, if possible, the goal of this panel is to provide the participating practitioners the opportunity to actively engage in discussion with these experts. If accepted, we also hope to add a future addition to the panel including a special education teacher from the EALA social media communities. This special education teacher can facilitate the practitioner's questions, peer-to-peer interaction, and also speak on their own classroom and EALA experiences. If time permits, panelists can show pictures, examples, or other web-based examples of strategies that answer the participants’ obstacles, and/or could be used to alleviate them in the future. We anticipate providing at least 50% of the time to participants to discuss, speak, and learn.
