Proposal summary

Purpose & objective

Every STLP project is built upon the Kentucky Academic Standards for Technology, which were modeled after the ISTE Standards for Students. Each level of rubric used to review student work submitted to STLP is built upon those standards. From the introductory phase the the final presentations, students are guided through a development process that embeds each indicator in their work. Through this process, students prepare and practice articulating how they have addressed each concept, skill, and attribute associated with the standards. By the end of the project cycle, STLP Champions have become versed in the recognition and achievement of the associated standards.

STLP State Champion student presenters will share their winning technology infused projects that identified a challenge in their school/community. Having identified technology rich solutions, student leaders worked bring their project plans to life, impacting their world.

STLP Projects are grounded in the ISTE Standards for Students and the Kentucky Academic Standards for Technology. Participants will experience how impactful student choice and voice can be.

The STLP State Champion projects for 2022 will be recognized at the STLP State Championships in April 2022. These projects and their presenters offer exemplars of student-centered learning and have historically been sought after poster sessions at ISTE Conferences dating back over a decade. We at STLP have always appreciated the trust ISTE planners have placed in the Kentucky ISTE Affiliate (KySTE) in choosing and supporting these student teams as representatives of the Kentucky Department of Education.

The Kentucky Department of Education’s Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) uses student centered, standards based, project-based learning principles to empower student learning and achievement. STLP provides a means for every student to design, make, connect and learn through technology utilization and creation of original digital content. Established in 1994, STLP has grown to support nearly 280,000 students from member schools across our commonwealth. Each spring, thousands of learners, educators, parents, legislators and community leaders come together to celebrate students "showing what they know" through projects, digital products and technical challenges at the STLP State Championship.
